Greetings to all Lions,

Following the recent round of District Conventions, we are delighted to report on behalf of your steering committee that all five Districts signified their support for the project at their conventions.

Additionally the five Districts also supported the project going forward to the Victorian Lions Foundation (VLF) for consideration by the Councillors.

If adopted by the VLF, the project would then come under the financial umberalla of the VLF. which would bring advantages such as Deductible Gift Status (DGR) and GST Registration. This would allow tax deductible gifts to be more readily accessed from Corporates and Philanthropic bodies.

The financial aspects of VLF are well known and will bring credibility to this side of the project.

There has been a steering committee which has met for some months now to bring together a sound plan to move forward. One of the critical factors has been to establish professional support and sound personnel training.

We have been extremely lucky to have the support and guidance of the West Australian and South Australian operations and this means in many cases that we have not had to “re-invent the wheel”.

As of the 1st Dec 2018 the following has been achieved:

1. Key stakeholders in the professional arena have been identified and we have had discussions with some. Shortly a position paper and invitation will be presented to the organisations inviting them to be part of an advisory committee to the management board.

2. Training of dermascopists to carry out the skin checks has been considered and we will partner with the W.A. program using a registered training organisation, plus a one day workshop and a period of supervision. Once this protocol is established, we will be calling for volunteers to participate and hopefully we may get many with a medical background such as retired nursing staff.

3. We hae a prospectus in final stages of development that includs the rationale and supporting background for the project as well as:

(a) Full details of the unit

(b) Proposed budgets

(c) Timelines.

4. We are also proceeding to have the project as an incorporated body that will provide stability and ownership/control by Lions.

There has been ab enormous amount of work done by the steering committee on your behalf and we thank each of them for all their hard work to get the project where it is today. This includes the current District Governors of the V Districts. The Steering Committee is:

V1-4: Lion Phil Clinaberry and PDG Naga Sundararajah

V2: Lion Delwyn Selbek

V3: PDG Ian Gration

V5: PDG Pat Mills and Past International Director Tony Benbow

V6: PDG Norm Walkington

We are going to need your support in the coming months:

We will be seeking funding support on ce the prospectus is released,

We will be looking for Lions with skills in:

We will be publicising these needs in the not oo distant future but if you think you have skills, or know anyone who has let any of the above named commeitte know.

This is a great chance for Lions to provide a great community service and provide a very noticeable awareness for skin cancer and Lions Clubs International.
